Ingrid Kristiansen, Running with the Legends

Ingrid Kristiansen is the only runner, woman or man, to simultaneously hold world records for 5,000 meters (14:37.3), 10,000 meters (30:13.7), and the marathon (2:21:06) and at her peak in training ran 110-120 miles per week.

Because she trained in Norway, where the winters were harsh, she would do most of her training on the treadmill. Kristiansen would do two-hours runs on it, along with intense speed sessions such as 1,000 meter repeats with a three-minute recovery, or 10 x 60 second intervals hard, with a minute recovery.

This past week our team has run on the treadmill quite a bit with all of the rain we’ve been having. We always say, “If there’s a will, there’s a way.” Well, looks like Ingrid Kristiansen had that same mentality.
