Today I am introducing Kelsey Bruce as our Greater Texas Track Club Elite Spotlight. If you’ve followed the site then you are probably pretty familiar with who Kelsey Bruce is. By far she is the most accomplished and decorated runner to wear the DBU or Greater Texas Track Club singlet.

Kelsey is a two-time US Olympic Trials Marathon qualifier (2016, 2020), as well as a four-time USATF Championships top-10 finisher. While at Dallas Baptist University, Kelsey was a four-time NCAA Division II All-American (XC, 5k-Indoors, 3k Steeple x 2) and owns school records in the 3000 meters, 5000 meters (indoors), 10,000 meters, and 3000 meter steeplechase.

This is my seventh year coaching Kelsey and can say without any hesitation that she is by far the best athlete I have ever had the pleasure of coaching. Every year that I’ve coached Kelsey she has improved and that’s not a brag on my coaching abilities, but more on the fact that she works very hard, is extremely prepared, and always takes care of business.

I highlighted in my article about her 2:34:03 at the CIM / USATF Marathon Championships that she is one of the most prepared athletes I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. That preparation with her hard work is why I believe that Kelsey can be a contender in 2020 for a spot on the US Women’s Olympic Marathon team.

This spring (2018) we’ll work to improve her personal bests in the 5000 meters and 10,000 meters as we continue to prepare for the 2020 US Olympic Trials Marathon. Her schedule includes some very big events, that I am really excited for her to take part in; those include:

San Francisco State or Stanford — 10,000 meters

Mt. Sac — 10,000 meters

OSU High Performance — 5,000 meters

We’ll also continue to get in some good work on the roads as prep for these major track invites.

I am very excited to see what Kelsey can do over these next two years as she continues to work towards the 2020 US Olympic Marathon Trials!!!
