Matt Galvin, September, 2018
This workout was just done two days ago…and boy, was it a great first test for Matt as we get into the longer marathon training that is coming. The assignment was pretty simple…10 miles total w/ the middle 10 miles run like this — 4 miles @ 5:45-6:00/mile pace, 4 miles @ 5:30-5:45/mile pace, and then 2 miles faster @ 5:15-5:30/mile pace.
The paces here are no problem for Matt, but the test was going to be the mental side of slow-grinding for 10 miles…that’s what the marathon is, right? We know we can handle ‘goal’ marathon pace physically…but can we endure the monotony of clicking off the miles and can we overcome the doubts of negative splitting and riding that line of holding back, holding back, holding back…
Matt did that brilliantly here.
I’m excited for the LONG work to come as he trains for the Dallas Marathon in December!!!
