Deena Kastor is one of my all-time favorite runners…from winning the bronze medal in the marathon at the Athens Olympics, to running fast into her 40s…there’s just so much to love and respect about Deena!
But there are two really big things that I learned from her.
The first is that it takes time to reach your potential. When she finished 3rd at the Athens Olympic Marathon it was eight years post-college graduation. Most post-collegiates give it up before they reach eight years. She was consistent and she was persistent. It takes time to reach your potential.
And the second thing is that when you are chasing those goals and pursuing your passion it isn’t ‘sacrifices’ that you make, but choices…you make choices to pursue greatness.
