Book Review: River Road, Pt. 2

What a great book. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves to read about running, or anyone who loves a good sports story.

Coach Dennis Barker wrote this book about what it was like growing up as a runner in the 1970s. It’s a story of a young boy who takes up running on the junior high cross country team and progresses through his freshman year of high school.

It’s an exciting time that the book recounts; the summer of 1972 and the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon and the Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany. There are stories of US running legends Steve Prefontaine, Frank Shorter, and Dave Wottle.

I remember how it was for me growing up as a runner and this book captures those same feelings I had as I learned what it meant to become a runner. I think many of you will feel the same way.
