Tuesday Tip — Be Patient

Most high school or college programs are about to enter their summer base training period and so with that in mind I want to give you my biggest tip for surviving the long (and hot) summer training months.

BE PATIENT.

World-renowned coach, Renato Canova, once said that you cannot rush fitness. In training, especially in the summer, you cannot rush it. You’ve got to be patient.

You’ve also got to be DILIGENT.

Be PATIENT, but be DILIGENT.

So, what does that mean?

  1. It takes time to build fitness. You can’t rush it.
  2. You have to show up every day to build fitness, and you need to do the training well.

If you want to WIN the summer, then you need to be able to look back over these hot summer months and say, “I was consistent with my running, did everything I needed to do, and I’m hungry for more.”

Be PATIENT. Don’t rush it. Learn consistency.

Be DILIGENT. Show up every day. Do it well.
