This week is a rest week for my college team. We’ve been putting in work since June and after a long cross country season it’s time to rest, reset, and recharge.
A lot of athletes want to avoid resting, but no one is exempt from it. I try to say it like this, you might not need a physical break now, but you will eventually…and you might not need a mental break now, but you will eventually.
I would rather you be fully rested and recharged before starting the training for the next season…you want to be ready and excited to train…so rest now, and get ready to be fully bought in when the training starts.
Tenet #1 in my training philosophy is that no one is exempt from rest. Before any great training cycle or great season you need to be sure that you are 100% ready to go…that usually comes from a period of rest.
