Today I have the pleasure of introducing one of my JHPRunning clients, Sandie Nathan! I started coaching Sandie in May of 2017 and helped her to a marathon PR at the 2017 New York City Marathon!

Sandie trains very hard, is very coach-able, and has her eyes set on a BIG PR at the 2018 Chicago Marathon!!!

1. When and how did you start running?
I really started running in early 2012 after the birth of my second son. I needed something that I could do just for me as both stress relief and a way to get back in shape.  The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society was starting a training group for the San Diego marathon right by my house, so I joined and ran my first half and full marathon.  After that I was hooked!
2. What are your current PRs for the road distances (5k, 10k, half, full)?
5k – 19:27, 10k – 41:56, half – 1:30, full – 3:12 
3. What are your goals for 2018?
My goals for 2018 are to increase my weekly mileage (without injury), get more consistent with my strength training, run my first 50k, and to run sub 3:10 at the Chicago Marathon.  I also want to go cheer at more of my friends’ races, it’s so much fun!! 
4. What are your major goal races for 2018?
My big race for this year is the Chicago Marathon. 
5. What have you learned about yourself from running over the past few years?
Running constantly pushes you outside your comfort zones, and has really shown me that I am capable of so much more than I ever thought possible if I’m willing to get a little uncomfortable.  Also, the value of a good night’s sleep is very underrated! 
6. What is one piece of advice you would give to someone who is looking to train for a PR in the half marathon or marathon?
Don’t focus on a single workout, good or bad.  It’s the totality and consistency of training that matters, missing a workout isn’t going to ruin your race the same as nailing a single workout isn’t going to make you PR.
1. What is your favorite running shoe?
Right now I’m loving my Altras! 
2. What is your favorite workout?
I love hills 🙂 
3. What is the one piece of running equipment, not counting your shoes, that you cannot live without?
My watch (Garmin). 
4. What runner are you most inspired by?
Kara Goucher 
5. What is your favorite post-marathon meal?
 Pizza and beer!
